My students need a variety of learning games and activities to help them understand fractions and other math concepts.
My students need STEM activities to use in Science.
My students are faced with adversity on a daily basis. Every year, I aim to teach my students how to overcome challenges and excel in all that they do. We work together to learn critical social skills, problem solving skills, and life skills with an overarching goal of academic and personal growth.
I teach in a high-poverty, urban setting.
We are a Title 1 school with 99.9% free and reduced lunch. The vast majority of our student population is academically and developmentally behind, when compared to other children their age. Test scores at my school have been alarmingly low for years and the rate of teacher turnover is alarmingly high. Teaching here is a challenge for even the most seasoned educators. It is not for everyone. However, I have found my home at McClure and fallen in love with this community. I hope to be an active part of the positive change that I believe is going to happen for this school and community.
My Project
I have requested materials for both Math and Science. With these materials, my students will conduct experiments, engage in hands-on learning activities, and take part in a more meaningful learning experience. I believe that this will allow them to retain information they learn, long-term and apply the skills they are learning to everyday life.
My students vary so much, in their learning needs, abilities, academic levels, interests, and attention spans.
With these materials and supplies, I can differentiate activities to fit the varying needs and interests of my students. I am confident that the games, experiments, and hands-on activities will make learning a more engaging experience, ultimately creating an enriched learning environment for children who have rarely experienced the true joy that can be found in a quality education.
