My students need a new classroom rug for our circle time, morning meetings, literacy centers, story time and daily lessons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
On a typical day in kindergarten students are on our classroom rug for; morning meeting, calendar, literacy centers, story time, math/science/social studies lessons, math centers, free choice and closing meeting. The students work with partners, in small groups and independently on our classroom rug.
I work in a Chicago Public School where our budget has been cut drastically over the past years.
We are unable to supply our students with up-to-date, usable furniture. My school consists of a very diverse population of students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Because of our diversity it makes our school such a wonderful place to educate and learn. My students come from many different backgrounds and we have created a strong, caring community between our four walls. We count on each other and help each other every day.
The classroom carpet is the area in our class that receives the most use and traffic, whether it is having partner talk during lessons, building a magnificent castle out of blocks or magna tiles or simply curling up with a friend to enjoy a book. We start our day on the rug during our morning meeting, calendar and morning message. We use our rug throughout the day for literacy/ math centers, lessons and stories.
Your donations to our rug will help improve the cleanliness and comfort of our room.
The bold, bright colors will make our room pop and come alive with color. The students will also each have a square that they can choose to sit at during carpet time; giving them their own personal space. Having a new, clean piece of furniture that they spend so much time on will create a new sense of pride, appreciation and ownership of their classroom which will improve their learning environment.
