Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a place where students are analyzing data, accessing current scientific information, and applying their knowledge to real-world problems on a daily basis. By the end of the school year, my goal is for all my students to not only pass, but to excel in my class and on the AP exam.
Our school is located in a low-income community that is plagued by violence, gang activity, and drugs.
My students face many challenges, and yet they still manage to come to school with a thirst for knowledge. Their hard work in and out of the classroom shows real dedication, passion, and grit. I hold them to extremely high expectations, and they have yet to let me down. They all truly deserve to have nothing but the best materials in their classrooms.
My Project
Below is a detailed description of how I would use each school supply I requested. GLUE: We use interactive notebooks everyday and need something to glue in our graphic organizers, projects, classwork, exam trackers, etc. These interactive notebooks allow students to stay organized in my class and keeps them on track to prepare for the AP exam in May. MARKERS: We will do countless projects and activities with these, such as making posters, sketching models, or making concept maps. It is a great way to keep students invested & give them a creative outlet to express themselves; an especially important skill in a science classroom. WHITEBOARD MARKERS: The students and I use whiteboard markers everyday - from taking notes to solving problems on the board.
I do what I can to provide for my students, but my budget does not allow me spend as much as I'd like on student resources.
The donations to this project would be invaluable to our classroom. It would further invest students in their learning and give them more reason to be proud of their classroom. The materials in this project- materials as simple as markers and glue - would allow them to take full ownership of their work and succeed in creating effective projects and presentations.
