My students need sport and game equipment: basketballs, footballs, kickballs and all kinds of game items to get the students active and having fun outside and in the gym!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
You know how much students just love recess and P.E.! Our students could really benefit from some new and fun game and sports equipment. Our gym equipment room is really a sad sight to see and truly needs a new supply of balls of all kinds and other fun activities for the students to use!
Our students are all Special Education students who work very hard to have productive and successful school days.
Our school serves students who have severe emotional and behavior disorders and students with autism. We are a Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS) program and we get a lot of support from our local school system, but we simply are not funded like other schools, nor do we get any Title 1 money. Our students come from all over Chatham and Effingham counties. They come to us when their behaviors prevent them from being successful at their area schools. At our school they learn coping strategies and coping skills in a safe and forgiving environment where second chances are endless. Their special needs make keeping up with their regular ed peers in academic areas very challenging, but they work very hard and any measure of growth is recognized and celebrated.
My Project
Our students thrive on physical activity! They just love P.E. and recess and would stay outdoors or in the gym for half the day if permitted. This equipment would make such a difference in the time that they get to spend in the gym or outside. The equipment that we have is sparse and not in all that great of shape. Honestly, our equipment room is a sad thing to behold. What a huge difference this equipment would make. I tried to select a large assortment of games, balls and other activities to appeal to all kinds of preferences. We have a lot of students who love basketball, but there are others who will prefer the tossing games with Frisbees and bean bags. The new equipment will be a source of pride for these students and they will take pride in keeping it taken care of and properly stored away. I can see it now - their eyes will grow large and they will not be sure what to do first! Great care will be taken to ensure that this equipment lasts and is available for students in the years to come. No more having to wait your turn for the basketball that bounces! How many students will be playing croquet for the very first time? Who will master the underhanded Frisbee toss? It will truly be an outstanding day! Thank you!
