Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"We adore chaos because we love to produce order", said artist, M.C. Escher. This artist will inspire my students to turn broken recycled ceramic tile, glass, and found objects into a beautiful interlocking mosaic design.
My 3-D Design students are highly creative, energetic, curious, and imaginative.
They live in an urban, densely populated neighborhood. They come from hard working families that strive to overcome economic challenges facing our state of California today. Our school is dedicated to meet our students and families needs with providing a well-rounded curriculum in spite of increased budget cuts and increased class sizes.
My Project
How will adhesive, grout, tools, and safety glasses change my students lives for the better? These supplies will enable my students to meet the challenge of taking recycled materials such as broken tile, glass, and found objects and create sustainable artwork that will reflect their own culture and heritage. This mosaic artwork will be something they and their families can be proud of, increasing cultural pride, and self-esteem, as well as knowing the steps that artists use to create ancient and contemporary mosaics. This project will especially meet our California VAPA Standard, 3.0: Historical and Cultural Context: Understanding the Historical Contributions and Cultural Dimensions of the Visual Arts.
I strive to make our 3-D Design projects meaningful and significant to students life-long learning.
Appreciating the process of mosaic-making is one way that students learn to value art including their own. Having the proper and safe tools will make sustainable art that students and their families will treasure forever. Without your generosity, a project like this would be nearly impossible considering the challenges we face with smaller budgets to buy supplies, materials and tools.
