"You have to apply yourself each day to becoming a little better. By becoming a little better each and every day, over a period of time, you will become a lot better. " - John Wooden
My students come from very different walks of life.
Many of my students have struggled with their school work over the years and have grown to believe that they are not good at school. I know that despite their circumstances and previous experiences that they are capable of succeeding inside and outside the classroom. Most of my students receive their meals at school each day and leave school to take care of younger family members or work jobs to help at home. School is not a top priority for many of my students, yet many of them come to school each day and put forth their best effort. Together we are a family through the relationships that we build with the aim of encouraging one another to reach our goals.
My Project
These materials will help my students begin to develop a growth mindset. Students will be able to work through different challenges including hands on brain teasers, metal mazes, and physical mazes. These materials will help students to learn to embrace challenges and preserve through challenges. Students will learn about a growth mindset which helps students to learn from mistakes and view success as result of effort and not an innate ability. Students will learn how the brain works through and learns through challenges. These materials are crucial to giving students the hands on experience with challenges.
This project is the most vital project that we are doing in my classroom.
Helping students to develop a growth mindset will dramatically change how students view themselves and the challenges of the world. The most successful people in our world have a growth mindset and this is what sets them apart. Helping students to develop a growth mindset will unlock endless opportunities and possibilities for students in the classroom and more importantly their lives outside the classroom.
