“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin
My students love to learn and our biggest challenge is being able to close the achievement gap between our learners. The lack of technology in the classroom creates a void in their learning.
My students are in a Title 1 school in the suburbs.
They enjoy learning, unfortunately we do not have enough technology for the students to use in the classroom. Most classrooms have no computers. One of our goals is to raise our test scores to close the achievement gap between our highest and lowest students. Today's students need technology to compete with others.
My Project
These five iPad minis with cases would provide several benefits for my students. In fourth grade our focus is informational text. They would be able to use the iPads to do research for informational reading and writing. My students need to improve their reading skills and one way to increase their fluency is by listening to stories online. We can use the iPads for a listening center. Also my fourth graders need to improve their math skills. The iPads would provide them with the ability to practice on several math websites to raise their NWEA scores. Common core practice across the curriculum is another area that students can work on while using the iPads. If we are successful in closing the achievement gap in 4th grade, their educational future will look brighter.
Donations to my project will prepare my students for success.
They will have the opportunity to use the iPads for reading, research, listening centers, and writing. As we close the achievement gap between our high and low students it will provide an equal learning opportunity for all of my students.
