Mice Make Searches Nice

My students need 25 USB mice for better web navigation as young students' fine motor skills aren't fully developed making it difficult for them to use touchpads on laptops.

My Students

How did you feel when you really wanted to do something, but were too small? That's how most of my youngest and special ed students feel when they try to make the cursor on the screen of their laptop move, and it just won't do what they want! Help make searching the Internet easier for my students.

As the media specialist, my students are in grades K-6 and attend a public school in Arkansas which is over 60% Latino, 30% African-American and 92% free and reduced lunch.

For this grant, I have 60 kindergarteners and 50 first graders who would benefit immediately from the USB mice, but there are many other students in higher grades that mice as an assisting device would help greatly. Only 20% of our students have access to technology in the home (not including smart phones) and use the public library for most of their Internet searches, so they are familiar with mice.

My Project

With the addition of USB mice, the time spent assisting students with navigation would be cut considerably, leaving more time to devote to instruction of content. Students will feel more confident using the computer and better able to concentrate on creating projects and searching for information.

You will be making a difference by providing students that otherwise would not have an easy way to access the Internet, the ability to use technology with confidence and speed with the help of a USB mouse.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
