This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want to teach my students how to be organized. By having a classroom mailbox they will have the opportunity to practice taking care of important papers. A lot of students will "hold" these papers in their desks, which in turn leaves their desks messy.

This is my 10th year teaching in an urban school district.

Each year I have special education students, students with 504 plans, and many ELL students. We are a free breakfast and lunch school. Most students walk to school. There is no transportation provided.

My Project

My students need a classroom mailbox to store important homework and school papers. I currently do not have a classroom mailbox for my room. I had a cardboard one for many years before that finally gave in to the hands of many students. Last year I went the whole year without any mailbox system whatsoever. It was hard for students to find their papers and the correct homework assignments when just passing them out. Having a mailbox for each student will allow them a place to put any papers that they want to keep and take home. This will teach them organizational skills that I would love for them to learn by the end of grade 3.

With a donation of a classroom mailbox my students and myself will feel more organized and won't have to worry about a place to keep important papers.

It will allow my students to have a special place of their own!
