My Students

We study Ohm's Law in my 8th grade classroom, but we are running low on multimeters! We need to replace our old ones for next year. My students need 25 multimeters to measure the power of their circuits.

I teach in an urban middle school in the heart of Wisconsin.

This school is home to a wide range of students who truly love to learn and push the boundaries of learning. My students are very active and love to do anything that involves working with their hands.

My Project

When measuring Ohm's Law, you are finding the relationship between voltage, current and resistance. In order to find what the total power is, students must build circuits and use multimeters to find each of these components of the equation. This is a fantastic multistage procedure. Students must first build a variety of circuits, measure each type of energy, and then calculate them together to discover the relationship. Out problem is that when measuring current, the charge goes through the meter and if a student does it wrong (which they often do, because they are kids and make mistakes) they burn the circuitry of the multimeter. Thus we need to replace them.

Please help support me as I help my students develop and understanding of the relationships involved in this complex idea.

When students can work in a hands-on engaging environment, the real learning happens. Please support this wonderful learning experience.
