By the end of the school year I want my students to be prepared for the 5th grade. I want them to be ready without any uneasy feelings of not knowing how to do any form of math. My biggest challenge getting them there is not having enough exposure to Math in the real world.
Our school is a Title 1 school.
The majority of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Some live with relatives or other guardians as opposed to living with their parents. We are a very low socioeconomic school. We, the faculty and staff, work hard to keep our students motivated about learning. We focus on the positive and encourage our students daily to do well in school and go on to college.
My Project
Math is a part of our every day living. We use it at the grocery store, at the bank, at the mall. We use it every where. I want to expose my children to as much math as I possibly can.
The games and manipulatives I have chosen will be very beneficial to my students' learning. Math is not just about numbers, it is about knowing how to survive in the real world. I want my students to leave me knowing the importance of math and how it will make them a better person. I want them to become successful leaders. Math is hard, and sometimes we have to break it down and make it fun. I want my students to love math, not fear it.
Using the math games that I have selected will be used daily in center stations. These games will also teach the children how to work in small groups and how math can be fun yet educational. I hope that by using the games my children will have a better understanding of how important Math is to our daily live.
I hope that by using these manipulatives, my students will gain a better understanding of Math.
I want them to be able to share what they have learned with others and teach someone else about Math. I want to expose them to as much Math as I possibly can, so that they are prepared for not only the 5th grade but for life. Math is hard and can be very difficult, but with the manipulatives and games, Math can be fun.
