My students need 5 MP3 players in the math classroom so that struggling readers have the opportunity to be successful in math.

My Students

Ninety-four percent of the students at my school are on Free/Reduced lunch, and many students have less than desirable home lives. The mere fact that students come to school with a hunger to learn should be celebrated. We want to provide opportunities for success! This project will provide those opportunities!

You could not ask for a better group of students at my school.

Many of our students come from less than desirable home lives, yet all have a hunger to learn. Our students enter school lacking many of the prerequisite skills their peers may have at other schools, which puts them at a disadvantage in the learning process. Our teachers are extremely dedicated and go above and beyond to provide for not only the educational needs of our students but also the social and emotional needs as well. Many of the students at my school are reluctant readers and struggle on a daily basis with understanding content. Through the MP3 players, the teachers will record the math word problem that students are to be working on. Students will have the word problem written in text and the support of the teacher reading the question via the MP3 player. This gives the students that independence they need during the problem solving process.

My Project

The donation of the MP3 players would provide endless opportunities for our struggling readers. Too often, their thinking is interrupted by the mere fact that they cannot decode a word or series of words. When their thinking is constantly interrupted, comprehension cannot occur. By providing the MP3 players, students will be able to engage in the problem solving process, and their intellectual abilities will be channeled towards the mathematics learning goal. When students have an authentic opportunity to engage in the learning process, they will have countless successes.

Through your generous donation, you will be providing students countless opportunities to be successful.

They will no longer have to struggle with reading during their math instruction. This will help them save their energy for the problem solving process. Once they engage in the problem solving process they will experience success and intrinsic rewards. These students deserve opportunities to engage in authentic learning in which they are challenged and educationally stimulated.
