My students need to be able to understand how mathematics and art can work together so books are requested plus curtains are needed to be able to see the projector during the day.
Seeing art work together with mathematics is something I strive for everyday with my students. The students at my school are driven by their art and understanding how mathematics is an integral part of all kinds of art, helps me to allow the students to see mathematics with wonderment and awe.
My students are artists.
My students are amazing individuals who find their own path and can truly be themselves at my school. Students at my school are accepted for who they are, are allowed to explore who they might be, and accept the other students for who they are and who they might be.
My students have all sorts of different identifiers for themselves in their gender, sexuality, race, and others; but they are all artists. No matter how they identify themselves, they all have some art that they love and I work hard to try to find ways to make the academics I teach integrate those arts in any way I can.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will allow my students to have materials to browse and use the technology in my classroom to understand how mathematics fits in with art of all kinds. The books I am requesting will be for students to look through to understand how mathematics can combine with art to create something great. The curtains I am requesting will allow me to use my projector. My classroom is bright and many times what is projected onto the screen is hard to see. I will use the curtains to be able to project images and videos that will demonstrate to dance students, vocal students, instrumental students, and others that art and mathematics are forever intertwined. We just have to know where to look for the math.
The materials from this project will help to illuminate the connection between art and mathematics in my classroom.
Not only will I be able to talk about the connection, but I will be able to project images and videos onto the screen and demonstrate that connection and students will be able to see it. Not only will I be able to talk about paintings and mathematics; I will have books where students can see the connections for themselves.
