Remember Charlie Brown's teacher? "Waa, waa waaa wa waa waa." Poor Charlie Brown. Now think of a classroom where you see engaged learners using hands-on tools to help them discover the exciting world of math!
My school has a 65% free and reduced lunch rate, meaning most of my students have a low socioeconomic status.
Many have not been exposed to rich mathematical conversations due to restrictions beyond their control and their parent's control. My students need this boost to help them be successful in life.
My Project
My students come from all around the world - we have very diverse learners. Because of this it is important to access each child's understanding of math concepts. When students just listen to a teacher explain math, they are not very successful.
We need manipulatives - shapes, algebra tiles, dice, pattern blocks and more - to engage in critical math concepts. When students are able to build their own understanding using manipulatives and a teacher as a guide - that's were the real learning happens! These materials include both hands-on materials and teacher tools. This will help us all become better.
You may hear of people saying they are not good at math, but this isn't true.
They haven't gotten the opportunity to be good at math. By donating to this project you will be giving students the opportunity to have rich conversations, to be mathematically inclined, and powerful problem solvers.
