Marine Animal Books for Second Graders

My Students
My second graders are part of our school district's highly capable cohort.
My students are intelligent, creative, hard working scholars. I am brand new to my school building this year, and excited to be teaming with such a fantastic staff and dynamic students and their families. Although I've taught for many years, this will be the first time I've taught in the primary grades.
My Project
This year my second graders will spend part of the year studying marine life. We'll read non-fiction books about animals that live in the ocean and study their life cycles. The students will learn about human impact on the ocean ecosystem. Our unit will culminate with a field trip to the aquarium! I have requested a variety of book on Marine Life including books about Manatees and Great White Sharks!
My second graders will be able to learn about many different species of marine animals with this collection of books. I hope by studying this unit the students in my class will grow up to be good stewards of our ocean ecosystem. Who knows? These books may inspire one of my students to pursue a career in marine biology!
