Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you understand matter, force and percents when they were first taught to you? My students struggle to grasp abstract concepts in our curriculum, whether due to a lack of real-world applications or learning disabilities that prevent them from thinking like their non-disabled peers.

I teach students in a high needs school with varying learning disabilities.

My students have ambitions to pursue college or trade schooling, or to graduate high school and find a good job. In order to support their transition beyond high school, they need your support to build understanding of concepts and applications in math and science. They come from a community facing many challenges and hardships, thus impacting their ability to connect with day-to-day academic concepts.

My Project

These materials will help provide a bridge between math, science and real-world ideas. Students will engage with science experiments, and have proper materials and safety equipment for these classroom goals. Most importantly, students will gain an opportunity to experience math and science in a new light, hopefully encouraging further study, use and interest in math and science in their future lives.

Math and science are subjects of great importance to each and every student in our schools.

Without real-world applications and tangible connections to concepts, students with learning disabilities face roadblocks to accessing opportunities and reshaping their lives as math and science scholars.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
