My students need access to materials, like counting cubes, a timer and the Squiggle Wiggle Writer, that promote the development and use of motor skills that are necessary to appropriately engage in drawing and writing tasks.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My preschool students have autism and attend a special day class. They receive occupational therapy (OT) in a motor room where they work on developing gross and fine motor skills that are essential for accessing the classroom and the playground.
My students have significant delays in their motor, language, and social interaction skills.
Due to their developmental disabilities, a regular education curriculum is not appropriate for them and therefore, they attend a special day class in an elementary school located in a high poverty area.
My students love going to OT during the day and as an occupational therapist, it is so fun working with them! My students love engaging in gross motor activities including jumping, climbing, and swinging in the motor room. However, because of these exciting and distracting gross motor activities, my students have a difficult time sitting at the table to work on their fine motor skills unless the materials at the table are engaging and motivating.
My Project
Before any child learns how to draw or write, establishing fundamental motor skills through play is essential. My students have not yet had an opportunity to develop these skills because of the lack of exposure to educational resources in their homes. If my project is funded, the resources I have requested will promote the development of these motor skills, which are necessary for all table top activities. The bosu ball and tunnel I have requested will help my students develop trunk control and postural stability, which are basic skills required for sitting upright in a chair at a table. The cubes, bubber, playfoam, and game I have requested will allow my students the opportunity work on the following skills that are imperative for functioning in a classroom: precision, in-hand manipulation, bilateral coordination, spatial awareness, visual perception, and grasping.
Funding my project would enable my students to have access to materials that are vital to their development.
The majority of my students do not have access to a variety of educational materials in their homes and would greatly benefit from a variety of materials that promote motor development in an educational setting.
Providing this donation for my students would give them an opportunity they otherwise would not have.
