Gloria Swanson in the famous 1950 Sunset Boulevard film once said “I’m Ready for My Close-Up, Mr. DeMille” This infamous phrase has been used in countless films and photo shoots since then. I want my students in our yearbook class to be able to create new memories with reliable digital cameras.
My students come from low to middle income families.
I teacher social studies, technology, and yearbook to middle school students at a title one school in New York City. They are excited to learn when they come to my class. However, their interest is off the charts when we as a class plan out their yearbook. The boo is a collection of their time in middle school complied into an 80 page book.
My Project
I envision a brand new set of digital cameras and accessories that will not be enjoyed by my students this year, but for countless other students for years to come. My students come to our yearbook class several times a week and at times we meet during lunch and after school to plan out the book. The yearbook is most probably the most exciting activity all year. The cameras will not only be used for the yearbook, but also for the video that my students create at the end of the year. The students will learn how to be responsible with a major piece of equipment and know how to take the perfect picture. The additional accessories will be used to ensure that the cameras will run in excellent shape and will be well looked after.
Having this project funded will make my students so excited because the current cameras are extremely old, and outdated.
The old cameras take poor quality pictures and the battery life maybe lasts about 5 hours (hardly enough time to take pictures on a school trip) The new cameras will allow my students to be excited to take pictures, knowing that the quality will be top notch.
