This year I will be teaching math to two fourth grade classes. I am anxious to share this magazine with them to help show them all of the ways math is used in their daily lives. The magazine will take them away from the everyday textbooks and workbooks. I am hoping it will help to make math fun!
My school has a diverse population of learners.
My school is approximately 41% free and reduced lunch, and we have a large population of Hispanic students, some of whom come to our school speaking no English. My school is an amazing school filled with wonderful, caring teachers and support staff. Within my classroom I have a diverse population which makes differentiating instruction necessary and fun.
My Project
My students will use the magazines in their math instruction to make their learning relevant to their lives. They will be able to see math used in every day situations. I will be able to use the magazines to differentiate learning for students as well, as the magazine spans more than one grade level.
It will be fun to use the magazines as a resource to enhance our math curriculum. It will allow us to get away from the traditional textbooks, workbooks, etc. The magazines are Common Core aligned, which fits right in with our curriculum.
My students will be able to apply math to their everyday lives and see that math is all around us!
I love to find ways to make math meaningful for my students, and I think that this magazine will do that for them.
