This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Fifth Grade students are from a rural, high poverty town north of Sacramento.

Many of the students are disadvantaged, second language learners that have limited access to technology outside of the school day. They are hungry for technology and the discovery of how things work.

My Project

The Makey Makey kits and companion alligator clip pack will allow students to explore and invent devices that use the on-board ATMega32u4 that communicates with a computer using the Human Interface Device (HID) protocol. There are six inputs on the front of the board, another 12 inputs on the back which can be attached to via alligator clipping. Students can then control these input ports and connect ordinary things to control their computer like a keyboard, or mouse. Students will learn the basics of Human Interface Devices and use an open electronic, or arduino, platform.

These electronic skills will allow students to be inventive as they practice 21st Century Learning and STEM Lessons.

Students will use their natural curiosity about how things work in a safe environment as they build, invent, and create using the Makey Makey kits and alligator clips.
