Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come from homes where it is impossible to curl up with a good book to read and relax. Help make my classroom a comfortable reading space so students can fall in love with reading!
My students are low-income and the majority of students are English Language Learners.
For many students, school is a sanctuary from the responsibilities or challenges that they face at home. My school is part of a big district whose resources are spread thin. Very few supplies are provided to teachers and students and certainly nothing extra to make the room feel warm and cozy. I want to give my students an environment conducive to learning.
My Project
Reading Workshop is all about independence and personalization. Students hear Read-alouds and learn skills in the reading corner which is where the new round rug will be helpful in making the space comfortable. Fun chairs help readers find a cozy space where they can curl up and actually disappear into their reading. Heavy-duty classroom bins, labeling pockets and caddies help keep the students organized and make finding books easier so students can get to reading more quickly.
School is more than paper and pencils.
My students need a home away from home. A comfortable reading classroom will make students more excited to read and soon it will become a habit for them. Help make reading an exciting experience for my students!
