Make It Real With 3D Printing

My students need a 3D printer to bring their prototypes to life, test them, refine them and perfect them. It also gives students another way to demonstrate their learning.

My Students

My class is a personalized learning environment for students to practice creation skills. Having a 3D printer at our school would encourage an engaging hands on experience for our learners, nurture their knowledge and interest in engineering and problem solving an support our STEAM initiative.

Our school of 7th and 8th graders is located south of Madison, Wisconsin.

My students are curious middle school learners. They enjoy using technology and creating projects. They are exposed to the technology they use at home, but not to a lot of real life technologies that are changing the world. I would like them to have more exposure to these technologies so they continue to grow as creators and not just consumers.

My Project

In my class, we focus on the ISTE standards and having this printer would satisfy creativity and Innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making, and technology operations and concepts. This printer can also be used to demonstrate learning in many other subjects including art, math, science, english, and foreign language.

3D printing is a technology that has grown substantially in the past few years.

It is becoming a product that is disrupting the world. The creativity and “out of the box” thinking that is involved with this technology stretches the boundaries of discovery and learning. Exposing my students to this real life technology will help them understand the limitations and possibilities of 3D printing and how it can change their world.
