My Students

My students come in like little sponges. By the end of the year, I want my students to be independent workers. I want them to be able to understand and apply beginning reading and math skills. My favorite quote is "Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children," by Walt Disney.

My class normally consists of 20-25 low income boys and girls.

Most of them come from homes that don't have a lot of resources and opportunities for them to engage and learn outside of the classroom setting. Our school is a rural school where we are very low staffed with large class sizes. There is not a lot of extra money to purchase extra things we want for our classroom. Anything extra we want usually comes out of our own pocket, which can really add up quickly.

My Project

The magnetic ten frames I am wanting will allow my students to have a hands-on manipulative that will help them with understanding the concept of numbers 1-20 and ways to create those numbers. My students would actually be able to have these in their hands as I'm teaching and interact along with me by placing the magnetic counters on their boards. Many students have so much greater success when they actually have something hands-on to work with.

Donations for this project will allow my students to have one more resource that could make a difference in the outcome of learning math skills.

Any additional resources we can get our hands on is always a wonderful asset to the students.
