My Students

Do you remember how you were taught to read and write? I remember that I used to have to spell words over and over again using a pencil and paper. It was a very monotonous way to learn. Certain toys are useful in promoting literacy skills such as magnetic that can be manipulated.

There are 25 scholarly leaders in my Michigan classroom.

They are motivated, determined, smart, and loving scholars that love, love, love to learn. Last year our classroom started out with very few learning tools. Over the past year I have acquired more learning tools for them to use to help make learning fun and engaging. However, we are lacking resources for spelling and making words. These scholars come from all different situations and for many they don't have the home support that it is needed for their educational success. It is my job as their teacher to provide the resources in the classroom that will provide them with the education that they so rightfully deserve.

My Project

As mentioned above, certain toys are also useful in promoting literacy skills such as magnetic letters that can be manipulated to make words. Children become familiar with the letters of the alphabet and with their shapes and sounds through these activities. We will be using the magnetic letters as a whole class and in small groups to build our literacy skills through various hands on activities. They will be learning spelling patterns, spelling rules, and sight words to name a few. Our activities will be hands on and engaging. My scholars will be learning how to be great readers and writers by practicing these basic skills with fun manipulative's versus using the very boring method of coping words down using pencil and paper.

My project is so very important because learning to read and write in the first grade is essential for their educational success.

If they do not learn the skills to be good readers and writers now they will likely struggle and fall behind academically going forward. If you choose to donate to my Scholars you will be helping them to learn reading, writing, and spelling strategies that will help them to be successful learners throughout their years in school.
