My students form a creative and busy community. Every day we work towards making our team stronger by starting our mornings with positive affirmation, respectful greetings and sharing our feelings. After productive learning, we end our day by summarizing our new skills, facts and memories acquired.
My students come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
They are always excited to learn new things and share their knowledge proudly. Many of my students begin to learn English the first day they start school in the United States. I admire the resilience and persistence of my English language learners. My language learners tend to acquire necessary language skills fast and, at the same time, are able to keep up with all other subjects. The main reason for this success is our classroom's community. All of my students are appreciative and respectful of the diversity. I teach them to be proud of our differences. Everyone feels safe to share ideas and participate in a variety of classroom activities. We often talk about how all of us learn in our own unique ways. I teach my students that it is them who are responsible for their own learning, and that I am always there to teach, to help them understand and provide them with lots of engaging practice.
My Project
A colorful, inviting and comfortable carpet will create a great meeting area for our community building activities, read aloud and whole group lessons. The carpet with defined seating arrangement will help my students to solidify their understanding about their personal space. In addition, my language learners love to first learn the colors, and a colorful carpet will be a perfect stimulus for that. We will be able to have great meetings, activities and lessons, where everyone will be able to fit on the carpet comfortably. Students will be also using the carpet as a quiet reading area, where small groups can work in read-to-self centers.
I believe that an inviting classroom space is one of the major components for successful student learning.
A big carpet is an integral part in creating such a place. Carpet creates an area where students gather together for strengthening their community, sharing their knowledge and ideas, questioning and building new experiences. A big, colorful and comfortable carpet will help to create a welcoming and energized atmosphere, where everyone will have a designated space.
