Ms. Guillotte from Washington DC is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a class subscription to Scholastic News and books series in order to really develop their passion for reading through access to books related to their interests.

Aliteracy is a huge issue. Students can read, but they don't read, and don't want to be readers. This project aims to provide fun book series to students in order to capture their attention and develop their love of reading.
My students are bright fourth grade children at an under served urban Title I school in Washington, DC.
They are eager to learn and incredibly talented, but our classrooms often lacks the exciting and relevant reading materials to really engage students. My students deserve to have a well-stocked classroom library that caters to their interests and showcases the best that children's literature has to offer. They would be thrilled to have new books to read this year.
I have requested a class subscription to Scholastic Newsm and I also have requested books that are in a series in order to really develop my students' passion for reading through access to books related to their interests. As a relatively new teacher, I am still building my classroom library, and my students need more options for independent reading, a crucial component of our literacy program. My goal as a teacher is to develop lifelong readers who love literature, and I need to provide that literature to students. My students will use the subscription to Scholastic News to read non-fiction text and to also learn about current events. The series books I have requested will be used every day during independent reading. My students will take some of the books home so they can continue to develop as readers outside of the classroom. We will use the books for literature circles, book chats, reader response letters, and for fun. My students will learn that reading opens up new worlds and they will voraciously devour these titles.
Your donation to this project will impact lives.
The books and magazine subscription requested will go straight to my classroom to be read, loved, shared, and written about. If I can cultivate a love of reading by finding books that fit students' interests, getting students excited about a series and invested in characters, than I will have used these materials to develop readers.
