Have you ever been to a Hands-on Science Museum? Ever wonder why the sky is blue? How about what causes a tornado? Having a community and family hands-on science night might just answer those questions.
The students in my classes are full of wonder.
They are always asking why and how. These students come from many different backgrounds and from various diverse cultures, speak different languages, and many of their families are struggling economically. The students are full of energy, wonder, and enthusiasm. They attend a culturally diverse school in the state of Washington. If you were to come to my classes, at first glance you will see a very diverse student population and a wide variety of science knowledge. What you might not see at first glance is a group of students that wants to know more about their world.
My Project
Family Science Night will bring children, parents, teachers and the community together for hands-on science education. Students and parents will rotate through science activities that will be explained by the students. At this event there will be many themes (types of science) to choose from including "Why do I look like my sister", "Tornado's" and "Amusement Park Science". The Space Sand, Super Snow, Prisms, along with Soda Bottle, Coffee Can, and Sandwich Bag Science will add to the wonder of science. Students and families need to do science not just read about science. The Family Science Night will encourage parents and children to learn together which will surely lead to new experiences at home. Our students deserve the opportunity to not only learn science but to teach science to others.
I am requesting Space Sand, Super Snow, Prisms, along with Soda Bottle Science, Coffee Can Science, and Sandwich Bag Science which will allow for our families yet another opportunity to experience science hands-on.
Sharing science with others is a dream come true. A Family Science Night will be such a great learning opportunity for my students, our school and the community. Students need to do science not just read about science.
