Let's face it, educators know that writing is an essential skill which can benefit students for the rest of their lives. Helping children, not only write, but to assist them to become "Little Journalists" is a goal for my students. Would you help us?
The students I work with range from Pre-k through 5th grade at a rural elementary school that had significant damage from Hurricane Rita years ago.
After Hurricane Rita, our school had to move four times in four years as a result of the storm. As the counselor, I want to offer beneficial resources that will help and guide young student entrusted in my care. We have over 500 Pre-K to 5th grade energetic students at my school this year. I work with the Jr. Beta Club, as well as with classroom visits throughout the year.
My Project
Technology brings so much to the classroom. "Empowering Students Through Art" meshed with the curriculum is my goal with laptop & printer. Students love to learn and even more so, they love to create. They amaze me every day with their creativity. I work with the best students! My goal now is to incorporate both resources in our school projects. As a counselor who works with anti-bullying campaigns, as well as drug prevention, I know both would benefit us for each of these programs. We are always involving our students in projects here. Technology is a large part of our school and a new laptop would bring so much to the school. I know with both project-based learning could take place. The best way to teach about writing is placing a computer in their hands. They swell with pride knowing they have the power to create and write stories by using a computer and printer would be fantastic! I know our Student Council would also be able to use it. The ink will be replacements when needed.
As educators, we know technology brings "new ways" to look at lessons.
One goal for me would lie with empowering students through art, with the use of a computer and printer. Without a doubt, both would not only offer lessons, but a new way to look at old skills with "new" eyes. With your help, we can put my "little journalists" onboard for this educational, creative and fun filled project! We would appreciate the help!
