Literature, Interactivity and learning! What a combination! As an ELA (English Language Arts) teacher, literature is part of our curriculum. Without a doubt, technology has brought changes to reading. Aya Karpinska shared "so what we think about reading and writing is not the same today as what we thought it was 5 years ago.
I am currently a 5th grade teacher at a Pre K-5th grade school, which has a wonderful parental support system.
Our school has almost 550 students at this time. My students are eager to learn and work hard. I truly enjoy teaching them. I work with ELA courses for my 5th graders. Our teachers and students are active in utilizing technology in our classrooms daily. The requested computer would also be used for many things to enhance student growth. It would also assist my students with reading intervention to lessen gaps in student learning.
My Project
Our school has been fortunate enough to receive Promethean Boards for all of our classrooms. However, we did not receive funding for ActivSlates and accessories I would love for my class to have one. It is basically a wireless tablet that offers the same interactive function as a Promethean Board, but has the advantage of freedom of movement. As a wireless tablet, it would allow me to leave my Promethean Board more. I could bring the slate to students to work with the Activinspire software and lessons. The tablet and pen would allow students to work out or answer problems interactively on the tablet for the whole class to see. As a dedicated educator with a focus on bringing technology and curriculum together, I realize how vital it is in recognizing individual student needs. I already have ideas how to use it. I just need some to help get an ActivSlate into my classroom now for my students. I know with flip charts, my students would use this device daily!
Powerful technology resources are now on the horizon annually.
An ActivSlate used with a Promethean Board is one of those. Teachers use them to integrate lessons with the freedom of movement. I know with an ActivSlate, we could work effectively on technology lessons. More often than not, additional money is not available for the extra technology accessories and tools. I am asking your help to bring an ActivSlate and accessories to my 5th grade classroom.
