Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Reading can be overwhelming for students that are struggling to read. A listening center would enable them to experience the joy of reading without the struggle that they often face. They will be better able to focus as they will be working independently which creates less stress.
My students are a diverse group and excited to learn.
They have varying opportunities to learn at home. Many of the students have little support at home, for whatever the reasons. They deserve to have the best opportunity to learn as I can provide. All of my class would benefit from a listening center. Those that are struggling with reading would benefit to an even greater degree.
My Project
I want my students to have as many opportunities as possible to enjoy reading. I want my students to be able to visualize what they are reading. So many of my students struggle with reading that it is difficult to get through the text. Let alone trying to "paint a picture" in their heads of the words they are reading. A listening center would allow them to paint a picture in their minds as they listen and follow along with the text. It will enable them to hear better oral language, voice, and fluency.
As I said previously these students deserve the all the opportunity to learn and to be successful that I can provide.
A listening center would provide opportunities for the students to appreciate and enjoy reading. It would also give them an opportunity to achieve independent success with reading.
