This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the first book you ever read? Do you remember having stories read to you? Whether it be a bedtime story or in the classroom, reading to students can be very beneficial, and we can make this happen!
I teach first grade at a Title I School.
This school is the only 'open classroom' school in the parish. Our classrooms are only divided by partitions. The students in my classroom come from a very diverse range of population and ability. The children come from working homes, single parent homes, and broken homes. The classroom consists of students with full learning abilities as well as learning disabilities. I like to inspire each of my students to do his/her best and to reach his/her goal.
My Project
Every day, we set aside time for centers or small group work. During center time, the classrooms can be a very exciting time of the day. My goal is to set up a listening center for the students to participate and listen to books on CD. Since students model what they hear, listening to reading fluency improves the students own reading fluency. Listening can also help with comprehension, retell, vocabulary, and sequencing.
By making a donation, you will help me create a listening center for the students to enjoy by listening to fun and engaging stories.
Your donations will not only impact this year's students, but thousands more to come. Please help us get our headphones and audiobooks!
