Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is not a typical day in my classroom. Every student is different in their own way, personally and academically. My students are hungry for love, support, attention, and education. I try my hardest to give that to them every single day. I would love to see my students enjoying reading!!
My students come very tough backgrounds.
However, they are very respectful, kind-hearted, and always willing to learn new and exciting things. They have not experience a lot based off of where they live. So it is my role to take them to places they have never experienced before. Most of the time that is through pictures, stories, or videos. These students are huge sponges just waiting to absorb whatever comes near them. They always find a way to your heart and leave you wanting to keep in touch with them forever.
My Project
The resources that I am asking for will be put into my Listen to Reading center. My students will be able to use the ipods to listen to stories being read to them. This practice will help with their fluency in their own reading. I have also asked for CDs that are about chapter books I normally read to my students. I will continue reading aloud to my students, but the more the students listen to someone reading to them the more it will help them in the long run. My students have headphones already; however, the headphones hurt the students and they do not like to wear them. Since the students will be using them in a center, they will need to wear them for more than 5 minutes. I would love to be able to provide my students headphones that are more comfortable. As of now, I do not have a listening center because of lack of resources for students to listen to and the uncomfortable headphones that the students refuse to wear after about 5 minutes.
Most of my students are ESL (English as a Second Language) students.
The language barrier makes reading a lot harder for these students. Being able to hear someone pronounce words and hear the smoothness of reading will not only help the students fluency, but will also help with their comprehension. Since my students cannot read the words correctly it is harder for them to understand what the words mean.
