Many of my students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. Listening to stories read aloud will help them learn that reading books can be a magical experience. This could be the year that magic happens and they fall in love with books.
I teach 24 energetic and inquisitive first graders.
My students are excited each day to come to school and learn. One thing my students love to do is listen to stories being read aloud. They know that reading smoothly means they are a fluent reader, but they need more experiences in which they can hear books read aloud during the school day.
My Project
My students will use this listening center to listen to trade books and then answer questions or complete small reports about the stories they have heard.
Listening to books read aloud will help build fluency. Answering questions about the books they have read will help increase student comprehension.
Students often have an interest in a higher level book, which is an opportunity to increase their understanding. Books that may be out of reach for them as an independent reader can now be available to them to experience at a listening center.
This donation will help improve my students educational experience each day by allowing them to experience new books.
Students will not have to worry about the level of the book they are reading, and may just enjoy a book with a classmate. This donation will help my students build skills that are critical to reading development in the areas of fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary acquisition.
