My Students

Our school is a Title-1 math and science magnet school that teaches students from all over the county.
Our students are avid readers and enjoy interactive ways to better their reading comprehension and fluency. Hands-on games and audio books would benefit students who are auditory and kinesthetic learners.
My Project
The requested reading comprehension games, a listening center and audio book will be used in our library media program in small group centers. Each center will include 4 to 6 students, depending on the activity. Students will engage with each other during the board game centers which will support communication and build community. The listening center will be used by the media library program and checked out to teachers for classroom lessons. The hot dot programs will help younger students build phonemic awareness and support reading comprehension in older students.
I believe that the library is the biggest classroom in the school.
Yes, it can be a place for quiet reading and discovering new worlds through a book but it is so much more. It is a classroom where students should be communicating, working together, moving, creating and using their imagination. I want a library that is alive. By using rotating centers, students will be engaged in their learning and with each other.
