Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students--or their families--have immigrated to the U.S. They live in an urban city and do not often get to see the rest of our state--let alone other parts of the country! I need interactive materials to show my students how diverse the United States is!
My students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of immigrant families.
Many of my students speak a language other than English at home. Despite the challenges that they face, the students in my school are consistently eager to learn, and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities.
One of the most popular topics we learn in 4th grade is always the United States regions. Whether they are native to Massachusetts or immigrants from another country, my students ALL LOVE learning about the different parts of our country--and the people that live there!
My Project
I am requesting an engaging U.S. States and Regions Literature Library with both fiction and nonfiction texts about the U.S.; an interactive U.S. States and Regions Resource Box with photo cards, writing prompts, CDs, maps, and more to engage my students in fun inquiry projects about the states and regions; as well as several hands-on geography and history games to further enhance their map skills and understandings about the regions.
These materials will reach my students who learn best through hands-on and/or visual activities, and support students' inquiry learning into the different regions and characteristics--people, economy, landforms--that make up our country.
In order for my students to be active, informed U.S.
citizens, they need to understand the diversity of places, of economy, and of people that our country is made up of. These resources will help my students gain that understanding.
