Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love music class, but we don't have any music books! Your donation supports music and literacy by providing books we can sing!
Harding students and families are wonderful, energetic, and joyful people.
However, they often come to school without basic materials. Many kindergarteners come to Harding and see a book for the first time in their lives.
Harding teachers are dedicated to serving the needs of our community and providing our students with the best education in spite of our lack of resources.
My Project
Songtale books are fun and engaging stories based on traditional American folk songs.
The teacher begins by singing the songtale first. Students are invited to add to the story at certain moments by adding appropriate sounds, words, or movements. The songtale book is then introduced and sung to the children. The books add reading and literacy development activities to the music learning. Lessons designed around these books develop music, listening, reading and literacy skills.
Songtale books help English Language Learners gain access to the meaning of the song, develop vocabulary, and explore idioms.
In addition, the book of circle games will allow us to bring these stories to life as we learn how to move and dance while singing.
The music classroom has no books!
This project will transform Harding's music room into a place for reading and literacy as well as a place for music.
