Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are fantastic, curious and creative 7 year olds who will one day hold our future in their hands. Most live in poverty with few resources at home and most live in the direct community surrounding the school. We are a Title 1 charter in Southern California.
Ninety-four percent of the students at my school live in poverty.
Their families are hard working, loving people who do all they can to provide for their kids. The vast, vast majority of our kids do not have access to computers at home. The teachers at the school are also doing all we can to provide the resources our students need to learn the skills they'll need to succeed in school and in life.
My Project
I am requesting 8 Chromebooks, a printer and ink cartridges for my students to master real life AND common core skills. My students will use these Chromebooks and a printer to master keyboarding and computing skills and become little technological gurus. My students will work collaboratively with these new resources to research topics online, format papers or presentations, print them and present them to the class. This will foster independence and will allow for more student choice in the work they do and present.
This project will make a difference because it will allow students in poverty to work with computers in a way that middle income and affluent children do every day as part of their normal lives.
My students will gain the knowledge they need to take computerized tests, drag and drop, scroll through data - things most of us take for granted because that knowledge is so innate to us. Help me make it innate for my students, as well. Thank you for considering my project!
