This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember walking out of the interview saying to yourself, "I wish I had been better prepared or even had a resume on hand to present to the interviewer." I want my students to be totally prepared and feel confident in their presentations both physically and emotionally.

Our students are from a low income, predominately Hispanic community.

Four years ago, I started a work study program on my campus. I did this because I found that most of our students are wanting to help their families make ends meet. One of the platforms I teach them is the importance of their printed presentation. I feel most of our students don't have the technical resources at home, therefore I try to provide the best working equipment in my class to help with the application or resume - whether it be for College or for a Career. They should take these written documents very personally, as they project their organization and thoroughness. To help do this, I want them to have the best printer, therefore, I am asking for 5 ink cartridges for an existing laser printer in my classroom. Another platform I take with them is to take away their ethnic shyness and build confidence in speech and physical presentations. I am asking for a camcorder, tripod, and 3 memory cards that will help them critique their interview process.

My Project

I want the desired resources to help students with whatever pathway they choose- Career or Academic. I want to better prepare them from the start of an application process to the interview process. I can't stress enough to our students that an admissions director or potential employer sees the thoroughness and organization as a reflection of the potential candidate. It will be to their advantage to produce these items on a laser printer. I will teach them that it is the well prepared application or resume that will take them to the next step. My next step is to better prepare them for a successful interview. To walk out of the interview having no regrets. I would like to record them so they can be critiqued and improve their verbal skills and physical language. The video and tripod equipment will be used in my classes to help build confidence and teach them the correct body language. I also would like to invite some our business partners to help with role playing. Let's help!

Together we can have a huge impact in preparing our students for an Academic or Career pathway.

Together we will build character and confidence by giving them the resources they need to open the doors leading to a successful interview. It's easy for a teacher to get in front of a class and talk what is right and wrong, but when students see themselves and others in actual roles, they will see and evaluate what a potential candidate needs to succeed. Let's make their experience a positive one!
