My Students
I once heard, "Life is like a math equation. We must convert the negatives into positives!" This is what I plan to achieve as a new Algebra teacher for a public school in need.
My students are part of an urban community in MA.
They are diverse, bright learners. Some of my students grow up in a house with a loving family; others do not. Some of my students have the support at home with parents who will ask what they have for homework and if they need any help; others do not. Sadly, some of the students who attend the school where I teach don't even have parents or a home. I want to impact their lives and show them that there are people in the world who do care about students in need in an urban area.
My Project
Unfortunately, the budget is quite low for school supplies. I currently have 85 students without books while I'm only allowed one ream of printer paper per month! I want to expand the minds of my students without hesitation. While it is difficult enough to explain math lessons without the students having a textbook, it is even more limiting with the supply shortage. The students NEED resources to be able to access at home. My goal is to create fun ways for my students to learn while giving them the chance to take these resources home with them! I LOVE foldables and these give my students the chance to be proud of their work by being able to make it their own. More importantly, they LOVE being able to make their work their own by personalizing it with coloring supplies. My special education students also benefit from visuals and color coding which is why the markers and pencils are extremely beneficial.
