Let's Make Learning Fun! Reading, Writing, Math And More!
My students need two Crayola classpacks of fine markers, Sharpie twin tip fine point markers, Expo dry erase markers, Rory's Story Cube Complete Sets, Button Cell Batteries, one SanDisk and Trashcend flash memory cards, Joan Miro coloring book, and one Dear World.
Did you ever think school was boring? Is recess all you remember? Well, the new Common Core standards and excessive testing that is being pushed on my students is only making this worse! Let's change that for the students in my class by making learning engaging, fun, and educational.
As a school, we are very fortunate to have a diverse staff and student body.
70% of our students are minorities; however, our school also faces big challenges with over 60% of our students coming from low income families.
My class is made up of eighteen energetic and eager to learn first graders, half of whom are native Spanish speakers and the other half are native English speakers. They are very excited about learning and need the right tools and materials to do so!
My Project
I have searched various websites and selected the materials that will create fun and engaging learning centers for my students. In addition to being engaging, these materials allow for differentiation and will meet the various needs of the students in my classroom. The materials will help my students work on specific math and literacy skills they need to grow as learners. Some of the literacy materials include stencils for story writing, a color coded tub storage for an interactive writer's workshop, different animal books for informative writing, and pocket charts for partner sorts. Some of the math materials include jumbo dice in dice, dice domes, write on wipe off dice, and Qwirkle for geometry shape identification.
Though it is likely that the amount of testing being forced on our little ones won't change any time soon, I refuse to let this ruin my students' school experience.
I believe they deserve materials that will allow them to have a rich, well-rounded and fun year. With your help we can make this possible! I'm especially excited for the independent level these material will bring to our literacy and math centers because of the increase in engagement!
