My students need the opportunity to listen to reading in Spanish. This listening center and start up set of books and CDs will help us improve in our immersion classroom!

For most of my students, kindergarten in my class is their first experience with Spanish. In the immersion setting especially, it is important for students not only to see and speak the language, but to hear it spoken and read as well.
My students come from all over metropolitan St.
Louis to an urban charter school. They have many varied interests, and we learn together in many different ways. They are extremely smart kids, and I want to give them as many options as I can as we make discoveries as a family. They are constantly looking for new challenges and ways to improve with the Spanish language. They are excited to be able to communicate in two languages, and I have already begun to see them becoming more globally minded, even at 5 and 6 years old!
This listening center will be an important part of my literacy block. Students can listen to the books I've ordered here to begin to really appreciate stories and the spoken Spanish language. Hopefully this will be only the beginning of a new listening library, and we can slowly increase the resources we have in this area! The wooden storage set with volume controls will give my students more independence and require them to be responsible for taking care of our new materials. Having everything in one place (books, CDs, headphones) will make things run more smoothly when it is time to use these valuable resources.
Having a listening center is a tool they can use first in my class to develop important skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
Hearing the text makes it come to life to make reading and literature more interesting and fun for young students. It also helps them fine tune their listening skills to be able to understand new vocabulary, follow along with a story, and pick up on details they might miss when reading silently.
