What's our wish? We wish for a MAGIC CARPET!!!
I feel that students are more engaged and learn more when they are on a "carpet" for whole group instruction, morning meeting, and when I read books aloud.
I am working with a group of 24 students at a Title 1 school.
Our school is very rural and serves a low income area. The technology, supplies, and materials we have at our school are very limited. Although our supplies are limited, my students are still very eager and excited about learning each day. We are working hard to get more things in our school that will help make the learning experiences for our students rich, full of rigor, and more meaningful. I want to provide a clean place in my classroom for students to feel comfortable, safe, and loved when they are at school. A designated classroom meeting place with a nice carpet will help do this.
My Project
When we meet in the floor for a lesson, students all want to sit on the rug. Our current rug is old, dirty, and way to small. The students who can't fit are trying to fit and I often loose their attention because they want to be on the rug too and are looking for ways to fit. This year I haven't been able to teach as much from a rug simply because there is not enough room and it ends up being more of a hassle than help. A carpet gives students a sense of security. It's somewhere nice for them to go to learn and be all together with their classmates. It also makes learning seem more fun because they aren't at their regular desks. So much magic and learning can come from a classroom carpet. A larger carpet with squares also helps with classroom management during carpet time because all students have their own little square ("bubble space") that they know is theirs to sit in. Students will also be able to visit the rug for independent read to self time.
Please help me take my students on a magical learning carpet ride each day by helping me fund and purchase a new classroom carpet.
This carpet will be used many times a day and will be the home for so much learning to take place. It's sure to be a place for lots of learning, laughter, and memories to be made. With a nice, new, larger carpet I will be able to take many groups on magical carpet rides for years to come! :)
