As I look at a new group of excited and energetic learners, I want to give them the best education I can in the year I have with them. The challenge I find is overcoming the lack of access they have had to technology. The benefits from the successful integration of technology are priceless!
My students are funny, smart, creative, analytical, curious, intelligent, and hungry to learn new things they consider useful and important to their lives.
Passing out a worksheet or quizzing them on their times tables on a piece of paper with a pencil and eraser are sure to extinguish the fire they have for school and learning. However, if you use technology properly you can keep kids motivated and driven to learn to the point they have actually forgotten that the activity they are doing is learning.
My school is in a low income area of Orange County with a majority of the students learning English as their second language. Many of their parents do not speak English at home. My students frequently are teaching their parents English. If I do not give my students the access they need to the proper technology resources now, many of them will never get them at home. At the end of the day, I would like to know I did everything I could to prepare them for their future.
My Project
This technology gift of an Apple TV, iPad and case,Samsung TV, and 2-year product protection plan, will allow my class of 32 students to participate in app centered lessons which will enrich learning. These fabulous apps already exist, and these resources will bring them to my amazing kids. With our focus on Science, Math and Engineering, these gifts will allow my students to see what I would otherwise only be able to describe to them. I will be able to spark the love of learning in a new generation of future scientists, engineers, and mathematicians who will not only be able to compete in a global economy, but lead the way! Students will be able to see, discuss, and interact with cutting edge apps as a whole class, instead of only being able to show a few students at a time in smaller center based activities. With the use of the technology resources I am requesting, my students will be asking things like, "How many Math problems do we get to solve?", instead of "How many problems do we have to do?" This is the powerful change I see in using technology!
Thank you for taking the time to read this project.
Donations to this project will provide invaluable resources to an amazingly deserving group of young learners. These resources could be the difference between encouraging future scientists, engineers, doctors, and teachers or having a generation of students who never find that spark of interest or miss out on the love of learning while they are still young. Please help me inspire my students to be the capable leaders of their future!
