Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Do you Lego fans know the feeling when you pick up a Lego brick, you see endless possibilities? That happens to me every night," John Comley once said and I agree. Legos provide endless opportunities for students to learn.
I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners.
I work with students with autism, students with specific learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, and students who may benefit from small group interventions. Close to 90% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, and about 60% of our students are English language learners.
My Project
The LearnToLearn Curriculum set will help introduce my students to activities in the areas of literacy & math. This set contains three activities for each learning area. Every lesson also includes grade-level accommodations that will allow me to scale the complexity of the activity up or down depending on the student’s learning, experience. These activities also work to promote the development of the following 21st Century Skills: communication, collaboration, problem-solving, & critical thinking.
The MoreToMath set will provide concrete but challenging problem-solving activities for my students using the Lego brick as the hands-on manipulative through which mathematical exploration takes place. These activities assist in creating engaging math lessons focused on problem solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning. Best of all they boost teamwork skills, encourage perseverance, and promote a positive attitude toward solving math problems.
