Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We strive for excellence. We work hard, play hard, and go home exhausted! I have high expectations for my students, and see them all making a difference in the future. This means they must be well-rounded scholars with diverse talents. These talents should include an appreciation for music.
My students come from many cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
They all bring our classroom to life with their many stories of family life here and in other homelands. We appreciate each other, and we share a common love of learning. My students know our school is a safe environment where their diversity is appreciated and their opinions are encouraged. The community is very involved and present at our school. We want our students to understand we all must work together to create the best neighborhood we can.
My Project
A class set of ukuleles will be used by 120+ students to encourage an appreciation of music, create and perform a varied repertoire of music, and read and notate music. Students will learn to read, write, and perform music and improvise melodies to share with our school and community. I would love to have our student "flash-mob" the school carnival this spring with our first-ever performance!
Music is a language all its own, and no matter what culture or educational level a family holds, music is exchanged.
Students will develop increased knowledge which will influence the rest of their musical responses and appreciation.
