My project needs 36 sets of 4 chair socks.

32 children can make a lot of noise but add 32 noisy chairs and teaching is almost impossible! Everyday, I am given the task of teaching Language Development, Spelling, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health, Visual and Performing Arts, and Social and Communication Skills to my students. These are 4th graders making their way into the big world. Most of my students are second language learners and come from socially and economically disadvantaged homes. Despite that, we are a school of high achievement and we pride ourselves on how hard we work!

Our campus serves over 500 students. We are a school of desire, therefore, lack space. Ironic but true. My current class is housed in a tiny bungalow in the yard. We face the noise of children playing outside as well as any construction work being done in the yard or neighborhood beyond. We are so close to the elements of nature that my students get distracted easily. They can't concentrate with all the noise. As if that isn't hard enough as a 9 year old when its nice and quiet. What can a teacher do within a small space to eliminate noise and get more teaching done?

I'd heard about these noise stoppers on chairs but now I am inspired since I've seen them in a colleagues class. It is unbelievable how much noise 32 chairs can make going up and down from tables and in and out from under desks. Transition times are often crucial to teaching. With so much we have to teach today, every minute counts. These "chair socks" would make my life easier and bring some peace and quiet to my class. Without the noisy chairs, my children can concentrate better. They can get more work done and I can be a better teacher.

They will be able to work quietly and not be affected by the noise across the room. This positive change will also bring peace to this teacher's mind.
