My students need 35+ Spanish and dual language books to reach a wide range of interests as well as two book holders to use for a display.

My Students

After teaching Spanish at the high school level, I can't begin to count the number of times I've said "Why didn't they read more in Spanish 1?". Now, I find myself stepping into the Middle School Spanish class for the first time and I have a mission. Build that library!

My students are in a rural area in which there are few opportunities to experience Hispanic culture and language first hand.

This library will help bring this world to them by exposing them to famous Hispanics, helping them understand cultural differences and opening their minds to a much wider world perspective.

My Project

My sixth grade Spanish connections classes will be looking through the books for cognate connections to begin building their vocabulary. In seventh and eighth grades, my students will begin to analyze the text for both grammar and vocabulary while increasing their reading ability. It is my wish that this library will give my classes a solid foundation as they transition from middle school Spanish 1 into high school Spanish 2.

If I had a dime for each time I've heard, "I wish I had learned more Spanish." from adults in my community, I could most likely take a very nice vacation.

Almost anyone in the work world understands the importance of being able to communicate in another language. By giving my students a solid background as they start their Spanish studies, they are more likely to retain and continue using their Spanish when they enter their chosen career.
