This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fifth grade in a rural, low income town north of Sacramento.

Many of my students are second language, disadvantaged learners that do not have access to technology outside of school. Careers in the technology arena are not known to these students. Projects that give my students experiences with technology is key to opening doors for their future.

My Project

Ollie is an app-enabled blue-tooth droid. Students control the Ollie by writing code to make it move forward, backward, spin, and complete tricks. With the nubby tires, the Ollie can navigate over many types of terrain. Without the nubby tires, the Ollie can drift like a race car. These traits will provide the motivation and excitement for students to program sophisticated code.

These coding skills will be enhanced by STEM and 21st Century Learning lessons further preparing my students for jobs in the future.
