I teach at a Title I school with budget constraints due to its small size, and one of our major deficits is newer technology.
Our school is 95 percent free and reduced lunch.
Some of our students are homeless, but that does not deter me from trying to reach each and every one of them. They have good hearts and want to do the right thing. My students deserve a great education no matter what. That's why my students need new technology. Our computers are old, outdated, dilapidated, and slow antiques. Waiting for the Internet is like waiting for paint to dry.
I am the proud teacher of 18 vibrant, energetic, eager to learn students who come to school each and every day. School is where they stay warm, feel safe and are secure. I want to provide our scholars with opportunities that will enhance their academic success and push them forward into 21st century learning.
My Project
Having this new 21st century iPad Pro technology will definitely make a difference in our type of students' lives. It will afford them to make connections to the latest technology and it will allow them to learn how to operate the tablet. For instance, on Friday we were learning about the life cycle of a plant/seed. One student specifically asked if he could look up "how to plant a seed to promote maximum growth?" I said yes. It took 10 minutes for the computer to load. Wow! What antiques we work with. One student said, Ms.N, you can buy us a new one. I said I wish I could. You should have seen the look on that student's face. I replied, but it costs too much for me.
This is just one activity my students will be able to do independently. They will also read using Raz-Kids and Compass Learning and of course, Discovery Education has the best videos. They also use Dreambox, Cool Math, PBS Kids, and other appropriate websites.
Donations to my project will definitely make a difference in my students' lives.
My students will use the iPad for interactive lessons, research, remediation, and enrichment with various skills and concepts in addition to my ESL and special needs student. It will allow the students to be aware of current events and to be globally aware of things that are taking place throughout the world. The use of this device will also enhance STEM learning in our classroom through the aforementioned tasks.
