My students need 1 Freddie the Frog Teacher Set and Freddie the Frog Teacher Jazz Set to help learn about rhythm, reading music, & jazz music. Freddie the Frog books are a fun way for students to learn these concepts.
Walk into my classroom & you will see students dancing, using puppets to explore musical concepts, listening to music, reading books, playing instruments, & using manipulatives. I see 320 students twice a week for music & they expect hands-on, interactive lessons each time they walk through my door.
I teach music to students in K-5 twice a week for 30 minutes.
I try to make every moment musical for all of my students. With this being said, it requires a lot of resources to make that happen. Teaching 6 grade levels means that I have a variety of student personalities and learning styles. Most musical elements and concepts are very abstract and require hands-on manipulatives and tools for my students.
My Project
I am requesting 1 Freddie the Frog Teacher Set and Freddie the Frog Teacher Jazz Set to help learn about rhythm, reading music, & jazz music. The Freddie the Frog series is a hands-on cross-curricular approach to teaching musical concepts to K-5 students. These kits will be used by all of my students in grades K-5 to explore fundamental music concepts. The series starts by using puppets, books, and Cd's to teach rhythm and beat which are the 2 most important concepts in elementary music. My students will be able to use the puppets to move to the beat of the music and use the books and CD to feel the difference between beat and rhythm. Older students will use the next series to become music readers in preparation for playing an instrument. They will use the treble clef island manipulatives to remember where each note belongs on the staff. Finally, students will use the last series to learn about the American style of jazz music and will be able to create their own jazz music and use the books and Cd's to explore scat singing.
The funding of this project will allow all my students from K-5 to experience fundamental musical concepts in a unique and helpful way.
The students will be able to use manipulatives and puppets to learn how to read music, use the story books to understand the concept of beat and rhythm, and explore/create their own jazz music. These kits will give the students a whole new approach to learning music.
